Cotton is a product of great socio-economic importance to Brazil besides being a natural source of fiber, setting the country on the international stage as one of the largest producers, alongside China, India, the United States and Pakistan.<\/p>\n

Importance to Economy?<\/h2>\n

Commercial cotton production started in the states of the Northeast region. The first major producer was Maranh\u00e3o, in 1760, exporting to Europe the first bags of the product.<\/p>\n

Currently it has great socio-economic importance to the country, besides being a natural source of fiber, setting the country on the international stage as one of the largest producers, alongside China, India, the United States and Pakistan.<\/p>\n

The crop has great productive relevance in the states of Mato Grosso, Bahia, Goi\u00e1s, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais and Maranhao.<\/p>\n
