Importance to the economy?<\/h2>\n

Second largest crop in agricultural production in Brazil, corn is in the country’s history since its discovery, being cultivated by indigenous tribes of the Midwest regions. At the beginning of its cultivation, it was used primarily for human subsistence, gaining importance over the years becoming the main raw material for the production of poultry and pork, as well as its strategic importance to world food security.<\/p>\n

The country is already the world’s second largest exporter of corn and focuses much of its production in the states of Mato Grosso, Paran\u00e1, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goias, Minas Gerais and Rio Grande do Sul.<\/p>\n
