Importance to the economy?
In Brazil since the early sixteenth century, sugarcane is one of the important crops that make up the national agribusiness. It was the basis of the Northeastern economy at the time of the mills, and it keeps currently in the state of São Paulo about 60% of its domestic production. Currently, Brazil is the leading producer of sugar and the largest ethanol exporter in the world.
