Cultivated since the discovery of Brazil, corn is fundamental to national agribusiness. The country is the world’s second largest exporter, being recognized for the quality of the grain produced and strategic importance in the food security of the planet.
Importance to the economy?
Second largest crop in agricultural production in Brazil, corn is in the country’s history since its discovery, being cultivated by indigenous tribes of the Midwest regions. At the beginning of its cultivation, it was used primarily for human subsistence, gaining importance over the years becoming the main raw material for the production of poultry and pork, as well as its strategic importance to world food security.
The country is already the world’s second largest exporter of corn and focuses much of its production in the states of Mato Grosso, Paraná, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goias, Minas Gerais and Rio Grande do Sul.
